Ongoing Research Projects

Start Date: May, 2025
Current Site: Kurmitola General Hospital, Bangladesh
Role: Principal Investigator (PI)
Description: I am honored to serve as the Principal Investigator at Kurmitola General Hospital for the TRANSFORM II Randomized Controlled Trial, a groundbreaking international study comparing Sirolimus-coated drug-coated balloons (DCB) with everolimus-eluting stents in patients with native coronary artery disease.
This multicenter trial spans Europe, Asia, and South America, and is set to redefine interventional cardiology by evaluating whether DCBs can match or outperform current stent technologies in terms of Target Lesion Failure (TLF) and Net Adverse Clinical Events (NACE) at the 1-year mark. Patients will be followed for up to 5 years, providing valuable long-term data.
Our site officially began participation in May 2025, following my clinical appointment at Kurmitola General Hospital. I look forward to contributing meaningful insights to this transformative research and improving outcomes for patients worldwide.

Mental health literacy intervention to reduce stigma toward mental health symptoms and disorders in women rugby players: a feasibility study

This feasibility study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of an educational intervention on stigma toward mental health symptoms and disorders, mental health literacy, and help-seeking intentions among U.K. semielite women rugby players. Seven semielite women rugby players participated. An A-B-A single-case experimental research design was used to assess stigma toward mental health symptoms and disorders, mental health literacy, and help-seeking intentions at baseline, intervention, and follow-up phases. The intervention was successful in enhancing the players’ mental health literacy and reducing stigmatizing attitudes toward seeking professional psychological help. Acknowledging the study’s small sample size, the findings revealed that there is a need for scaffolding to support future developments, advancements, and maintenance of mental health support in women’s rugby. Practical implications of future findings from a larger-scale study may lead to policy reformation across the game to inform and improve systemic mental health support for women rugby players.

Past Research Projects

Title: TOFCAPI Trial – Effect of Trimetazidine on Functional Capacity in Ischaemic Cardiomyopathy

Study Period: January 1, 2022 – February 28, 2023
Role: Principal Investigator (PI)
Location: National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD), Dhaka, Bangladesh
Description: I served as Principal Investigator for the TOFCAPI Trial, a prospective observational study conducted at NICVD, Dhaka, investigating the therapeutic impact of modified-release trimetazidine in patients with ischaemic cardiomyopathy and reduced ejection fraction (LVEF < 35%).

Title: Short- and Long-Term Outcomes Among COVID-19 Survivors

Study Period: August 1, 2021 – August 30, 2022
Role: Principal Investigator (PI)
Study Type: Multi-Center Prospective Observational Study
Description: As Principal Investigator, I led a multi-center prospective observational study aimed at evaluating both short- and long-term health outcomes among patients recovering from COVID-19.
Since its emergence in late 2019, COVID-19 has been recognized as a multi-organ disease with a wide range of lingering symptoms. Survivors often experience prolonged effects resembling post-viral syndromes seen in earlier coronavirus outbreaks. However, the long-term impact, especially on individuals with comorbidities or severe disease, remains under-investigated.

Title: Effect of Intravenous Iron on Functional Capacity in Ischemic Cardiomyopathy

Study Period: January 1, 2022 – December 31, 2022
Role: Co-Investigator
Description: In 2022, I served as Co-Investigator on a randomized, open-label clinical trial assessing the impact of intravenous ferric carboxymaltose (FCM) on functional capacity in patients with ischemic cardiomyopathy, reduced ejection fraction, and iron deficiency.
The study enrolled 80 heart failure patients, comparing those who received IV iron alongside standard therapy with those on standard therapy alone, over a 12-week follow-up period.
